Daniel Herwitt, known by his moniker Sunflower Form, views the world through the lens of nature. He primarily creates from his imagination, exploring themes of anxiety and labor through both familiar and supernatural elements. He combines the processes of cartooning and Netherlandish painting to create environments inhabited by lurking figures and destitute characters amidst everyday items.
Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, and living in the mountainous landscape of the West, the natural world has been a continuous source of inspiration, shaping his interpretation of reality. Daniel seeks to enhance his picture-making skills and the overall vibrancy of his work, with a particular obsession with shading. His representations of opposing realities delve into the theme of impermanence, highlighting his fascination with the passage of time. He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his son and two beautiful cats.
Daniel Herwitt (Sunflwer Form) (b. 1986, Englewood, NJ) graduated with a BFA from The Art Institute of Chicago in 2010 and an MFA from Yale in 2013, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
